Condition: Good - The frame has minor damage on the left edge.

Miniature sketch (15 x 8 cm) of fishing boats in the style of H.W. Mesdag, skillfully handcrafted by a Dutch master unknown to me, this piece is a small romantic gem. Maximum effect was achieved with minimal colouring. Bottom right there could be a signature type: "D.F.J.F." (or D.F.L.F?). Housed in handmade wooden frame with mahogany veneer.

¶ On the backside a label of "Plaat en Lijstenhandel ("Specialiteit in portretlijsten met verkröpte hoeken en kruislijsten") J. du Pon, Haarlemmerstraat 60, Leiden; Encadrementen." This company was active around 1860.
